Young adults of 21 years of age living with an ASD/ID have very few services offered once they finish high school even though the Montérégie is ranked first among the administrative regions in terms of prevalence of autism in children. This unfortunate reality puts added pressure on families and marginalizes these young adults. Pleins Rayons reaches out to more than 82 participants. Since its inception, 5 participants have entered the workforce. We provide real opportunities for these young adults to develop a wide variety of professional and social skills.
Need for the program
Pleins Rayon’s mission is the positive social inclusion of individuals for whom finding their place in society is a challenge. We offer them a chance to develop socio-professional skills through social economic projects and through various therapeutic recreation activities.
Pleins Rayons focusses on teaching bicycle mechanics and all its forms by refurbishing used bicycles. Our initiative welcomes young adults between the ages of 15 and 35 years living with an autism spectrum disorder, an intellectual disability, or at risk students at the high school and elementary levels. Our vision of social inclusion and integration is also pursued in the wider community by giving back these bicycles to schools, for use in their physical fitness programs or as gifts to families in need.
